Personal Life Story Of Roberta Johnson
I was born in Topeka, Kansas and moved to a farm in Aliceville, Kansas when I was six years old. My mom and dad sent my sister and me to Sunday School at the Methodist church there. I was very blessed to have the same teacher, Mrs. Faith Standley, for Sunday School throughout my growing up years. It was through her teaching and guidance that I came to know the Lord as my Savior.
In the summer of 1967 the pastor of our little church led a class that we were to complete before joining the church. God reaches out to everyone in His own way. As I was walking home from the group class one morning, it was like the Lord spoke to me. I can remember the exact spot on the street in Aliceville where I had a change of heart. It was like, “Oh, I understand. Jesus is more than just a name. Church isn’t somewhere I have to go—I want to go.” From that moment on I felt different inside. That understanding has grown more over the years, and I have never felt the way I did before that moment.
I finished high school and moved to Iola to attend Allen County Community College. Here I met and married my husband, Charlie. He belonged to First Baptist Church of Iola. After visiting with Pastor William Travis I was baptized into the Baptist church. I raised my children in this church and have been active teaching Sunday School and working wherever and whenever God leads. I have been blessed with a wonderful church family and plan to serve Jesus the best I can the rest of my life.
If you would like Jesus to be your Savior, follow these steps written by Evangelist Greg Laurie:
First – Admit you are a sinner. Stop making excuses for it. Stop blaming other people for it. Just say, “I have sinned. I have broken God’s commandments.”
Second – Realize that Jesus Christ died on the cross for your sin. He paid the penalty for you. He died in your place.
Third – Repent of your sins. The Bible says, “Repent and be converted,” and, “God has commanded people everywhere to repent.” To repent means to change your direction. You have been going away from God. Hang a U-turn in the road of life and go back toward Him.
Finally – You must receive Jesus Christ as your Savior and Lord. And by that I mean through prayer you must say something like, “Lord Jesus, come into my life and forgive me of my sin.”
Choose whom you will serve, whom you will obey. Christ is calling you to follow Him.
