Personal Life Story Of Becky Quinn

Mike QuinnI used to think life was all about athletics and socializing with my friends. I was popular and a star athlete in high school. I attended church with my mother, but I thought most church people were hypocrites, especially the church leadership. As a young child I had experienced very inappropriate behavior from the pastor of our church, and it had tainted my view of Christians. So God and the church had little influence in my life growing up. I was busy having fun. I was on top of the world, or so I thought. Even the Bible acknowledges there is pleasure in sin for a season. The key word is “season.” After high school things were not turning out as I had planned. I became disappointed with my life. I married at 19, had a child at 21. It didn’t take long before my relationship with my husband, Mike, began to suffer. We were headed for divorce.

Desperate, I decided to go back to church. There was a new preacher, Brother Paul. He was young, about my age. Because of what had happened in my past, I didn’t trust him. He was a good speaker and really made the Bible interesting. I still didn’t trust him. I remember driving by his house on my way home and seeing him in his car praying. I began to wonder if what he had was real. He was always so joyful and full of life; always ready to share his faith. I started to read my Bible, pray, and grow in my faith. I decided to turn my life over to Jesus Christ, to give Him complete control. My life really turned around. I had peace, and life had meaning. I actually wanted to go to church for the first time. God and church were now my priorities. I stopped playing in softball tournaments on Sunday. I also stopped going to bars and parties with Mike. As a result our relationship became even more strained and distant.

Brother Paul began visiting Mike, initially just trying to begin a relationship with him. After several visits Paul shared with Mike how to have a relationship with Jesus Christ. I was really surprised and excited when Mike said he would like to know Jesus. He prayed with the pastor that night to give Christ control of his life.

Did our lives ever take a dramatic turn! I shudder to think where we would be without Christ in our lives and marriage. My life is an exciting adventure now. Mike has been a minister of the gospel for the past 28 years. We have been at Iola First Baptist Church since January 2009. Not only do I have eternal life through Christ, but I also have that abundant life which I had been longing. Jesus said in John 10:10, “I have come that they may have life, and that they may have it more abundantly.”

I hope that your life’s story will have a happy ending. It can no matter what your circumstances. God loves you and has a great plan for your life. But because of sin in your life, you are separated from God. “We are all sinners” (Romans 3:23). The price for sin is death (Romans 6:23). But the price is already paid! “God showed his great love for us by sending Christ to die for us while we were still sinners” (Romans 5:8). Jesus is the only answer. He said, “I am the way, the truth, and the life, no one comes to the Father but by me” (John 14:6). It’s your choice. You must decide for yourself if you are willing to turn from your sins and ask Jesus into your life (Romans 10:9 & John 1:12). Contact us for more information about how to become a Christian.
