Meet the Pastor
My Story/His Story
I was raised by alcoholic parents. I was pretty well left on my own growing up. My dad was away a lot, and my mother spent most days drinking. So I began drinking as a very young teen. It was the only way of life I knew. A neighbor lady used to take me to church occasionally. I believed in God and was even baptized at this church. However, I didn’t really know God. When I was 15 my best friend was killed in a car accident. I became angry at God. I did not want to have anything to do with Him.
I continued on in my destructive lifestyle of drinking and partying for many years. When I was in my mid-20’s several close friends died tragic deaths in a short time period. Two were shot and killed in a bar, one drowned in a pond, and one died in a house fire. I wondered about life after death. Where were they, and where would I be if I were to die? Even though I appeared happy, my life was falling apart. I was miserable, addicted to alcohol, and my marriage was falling apart. Around this same time a Baptist preacher began to visit me. God was preparing my heart to hear what he was saying. One night the preacher asked me if I would like to turn my life completely over to Jesus Christ, God’s Son. I said that I would. I don’t think I would be alive today if I had not made that decision.
Since inviting Jesus into my life, I have peace, contentment, and a purpose for living. Life is still hard, and there are heartaches. The difference is now I have a strength that I didn’t possess on my own. My life is exciting with every day being an adventure. God had a purpose for my life. I have had the privilege of telling the same good news that transformed my life for nearly 30 years.
I hope that your life’s story will turn into HIS story. Jesus said in John 10:10, “I have come that they may have life, and that they may have it more abundantly.”
Your Life’s Story – How Will It Turn Out?
Steps to making HIS story for your life: 1) Admit your need (I am a sinner). Romans 3:23 “For all have sinned and come short of the glory of God.” 2) Be willing to turn from your sins (repent). Repentance involves turning from self and turning to Christ. Acts 3:19, “Repent therefore and be converted that your sins may be blotted out.” 3) Believe that Jesus Christ died for you on the cross and rose from the grave. 1 Corinthians 15:3-4, “Christ died for our sins according to the Scriptures, and that He was buried, and that He rose again the third day according to the Scriptures.” 4) Through prayer invite Jesus Christ to come in and control your life through the Holy Spirit. John 1:12, “But as many as received Him, to them He gave the right to become the children of God.” To begin your His story pray a prayer like this: Dear Lord Jesus, I know that I am sinful and I need your forgiveness. I believe that You died to pay the penalty for my sin. I want to turn from my sin nature and follow You instead. I invite You to come into my life. In Jesus’ name. Amen.
